# Options

Use **Options** to adjust a grid's appearance, selection and sorting behavior, and the number of records loaded or saved at a time. These settings are also available for Related Grid tabs.

## Open Options

**1. Edit the Tab**

Open the tab menu and click **Edit**.

**2. Select Options**

Select **Options**, then adjust the settings under **Display**, **Behavior**, and **Data**.

**3. Save Changes**

Click **Save** to save the tab configuration.

> [!NOTE]
>
> If you do not have permission to save the tab configuration, you can use **Apply** when temporary tab changes are allowed for the item. These changes do not update the saved tab configuration.

The defaults below apply to new Grid tabs. Existing tabs may use different values.

## Display

| Option | Description | Default |
| - | - | - |
| **Header Height** | Height of the column headers in pixels. Minimum: 20. | 29 |
| **Row Height** | Height of each data row in pixels. Minimum: 20. | 29 |

If you clear a height field or enter 0, it returns to the default when you leave the field. Other values below 20 are adjusted to 20.

## Behavior

| Option | Description | Default |
| - | - | - |
| **Always pin row-selection checkbox to the left** | Keep the selection checkbox column visible when scrolling horizontally, even when no data columns are pinned. | Off |
| **Show blank values last when sorting** | Place records with blank values after records with values when sorting. | Off |

The selection checkbox column also stays on the left when a data column is pinned to the left. See [Columns](https://coconut-grid.mintlify.site/visualization/grid/columns.md) for column pinning and [Sorting](https://coconut-grid.mintlify.site/visualization/grid/sorting.md) for sort controls.

## Data

| Option | Description | Default | Available Values |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Max Rows** | Maximum number of records to load into the grid. | 2,000 | 200, 500, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 40,000, 100,000 |
| **Fetch Batch Size** | Maximum number of records retrieved in each loading request. | 20,000 | 200, 500, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 40,000 |
| **Save Batch Size** | Maximum number of changed rows sent in each save request. | 2,000 | 1, 10, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 |

**Max Rows** limits the total loaded records, while **Fetch Batch Size** controls how many are retrieved at a time. A fetch request does not exceed the remaining **Max Rows** limit. For example, with **Max Rows** set to 2,000 and **Fetch Batch Size** set to 20,000, the grid loads at most 2,000 records.

**Save Batch Size** controls how pending changes are grouped when you use [Save](https://coconut-grid.mintlify.site/actions/save.md). It does not save edits automatically.
